The final piece from this section is the slide deck for a workshop hosted by Kenlea Pebbles, Jessy Melendez and myself for the Michigan Writing Center Association Annual Conference. The main focus of this workshop was to illustrate the different ways in which MSU’s Writing Center has made itself more accessible to students through relationship building. I contributed to the workshop by sharing my experiences as the coordinator for the Holden satellite of the Writing Center and helping facilitate the discussion during the participant workshopping time.
I decided to include this piece because it shows how teaching can happen collaboratively. There’s the more visible moment of collaboration which was us facilitating the workshop together and collectively teaching the attendees about the value of relationship building. There’s also the smaller teaching moments like when we were planning the workshop together and got to teach each other about all the cool things happening within our spaces. My main takeaway from this experience is that teaching/learning happens best collaboratively and in community.
