This is one out of three pieces of writing in this portfolio that was not made for a course I was taking. Instead, it’s a set of promotional materials designed for a series of workshops that were part of my RAship called “Graduate Student Job/Career Workshops.”These workshops were a new initiative designed to help students in the Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and American Cultures and the Department of English find jobs/careers beyond the traditional tenure-track academic job.
The reason I chose these materials is because they demonstrate how I put into practice the things I learned through my coursework. I utilized Michigan State University’s style guide to ensure that the colors, fonts, and logos all matched what the university was using. Additionally, the revision process for the materials was always collective; I would make several drafts and send them out to the rest of the group working to create these workshops for feedback and recommendations. Lastly, I worked with one of the members of the team, Dr. Danielle DeVoss, to make sure the materials were accessible to all students by embedding the actual links to all the meetings into the materials.
